WP5

Work Package 5 (WP5): EM detailed design and manufacturing

Participants: ARQ (coordinator) plus ECE, AVS, STI, SSTL.

Objectives of WP5

  • To design the EM REACT for each particular application defined during the requirement specification.
  • To manufacture an EM of REACT for each particular application defined during the requirement specification.
  • To define the functional test plan of the devices manufactured, including functional tests within the systems of each particular application.

Description of work and tasks of WP5

Task 5.1 REACT EM Detailed Design [ARQ]

In this work package, the currently available designs of REACTs devices will be modified aimed to fulfil the specifications defined in WP2. The design will also take into account the tribological recommendations and feedback of WP4.1, WP4.2 and WP4.3 and the SMA material and manufacturing techniques outputs from WP3.1, WP3.2 and WP3.3. All this inputs will permit to optimize the current REACT devices for each final application.

Task 5.2 REACT EM Manufacturing [ARQ]

Four EM will be manufactured, one per final application. The manufactured device shall be manufactured with the same procedures, materials and treatments than the ones foreseen to be used for the QM devices.

Task 5.3 REACT EM test plan definition [AVS, ARQ, ECE, SSTL, STI]

Task 5.3 will define the AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) plan, including: Establish Development and Verification Implementation. Generate AIT planning with test objectives, detailed test requirements and test procedures. MAIT planning. The test plan will be defined for the REACTs alone and also for final user applications:

Task 5.4 Design and manufacture test bench for launcher structures [ECE].

Design and manufacture test bench required for functional testing and qualification testing of the REACT devices within launcher structures.

Task 5.5 Design and manufacture test bench for planetary exploration subsystems [AVS].

Design and manufacture test bench required for functional testing and qualification testing of the REACT devices within planetary exploration subsystems.

Task 5.6 Design and manufacture test bench for big structures deployment [STI]

Mechanical electrical and structural Engineering. Coordinate technical development activities (including design and interface specifications). Identify and initiate required analysis and test efforts. Coordinate MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment) and related component development activities.

Task 5.7 Design/manufacture test bench for small satellites subsystems deployment [SSTL]

For the engineering model manufacture, SSTL will complete detailed design, structural analysis, manufacturing drawings and procurement of their HDRM with the REACT actuator for the static deployable solar arrays.
